The Whole Brain Path to Peace with James Olson | Podcast # 34

James Olson, author of The Whole Brain Path to Peace, was formerly a farmer and church deacon. A seminar on the brain set him on a path of study that led him to some profound insights about how differently the two halves of our brain react to the world around us. He realized that much of the conflict and polarization in our world can be traced to the dominance of the self-protective left-brain, typical among males who control the political/military/industrial scene. The right brain, more dominant in women, is the compassionate side and sees things in terms of their relation to the greater whole. A whole-brain approach that considers both perspectives and takes the best from each is what we need for personal and global peace.

Matthew Fox on The Pope’s War | Podcast #31

Theologian Matthew Fox, a former Catholic priest silenced by Pope Benedict XVI when he was Cardinal Ratzinger, recounts the “war for the soul of the Catholic Church” waged by Benedict and his predecessor, John Paul II, in his new book The Pope's War: Why Ratzinger's Secret Crusade Has Imperiled the Church and How It Can Be Saved (Sterling Ethos, May 2011). It's a searing indictment that portrays a church hierarchy obsessed with rooting out theological dissent and crushing creativity, while covering up the pedophile crisis. It also offers a hopeful vision for the future as Fox believes that the Holy Spirit is at work in “ending the Catholic Church as we know it” and making it possible to “push the restart button on Christianity.”

Natural Abundance with Ruth Miller | Podcast #29

Dr. Ruth L. Miller interprets the key essays in which Emerson lays out the foundational ideas for what became New Thought and Science of Mind. The spiritual, political and social philosophy of this towering personality are as fresh and relevant today as they were 150 years ago when he left the ministry, objecting to the “hell and damnation” school of preaching, and offered by contrast a concept of Nature, Soul and Self, based on direct experience and intuition.
